We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Freelance Researcher to work with our passionate team at Action For Sama.
In this pivotal role, you will be gathering the oral histories of Syrian healthcare professionals with direct experience of working in conflict zones. This position involves conducting in-depth interviews that will form the foundation of Action For Sama advocacy efforts, ensuring that the experience of those working on the front lines are thoroughly documented, their valuable insights captured, and their needs championed.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Researcher will:
Carry out a minimum of 20 trauma-sensitive interviews with Syrian healthcare workers who have direct experience of working in conflict.
Develop a diverse list of interviewees that reflect a variety of professional roles, geographic locations, and gender perspectives.
Develop a structured interview guide to ensure consistency and depth in data collection.
Accurately transcript the interviews and translate each interview into English.
Ensure that all interviews are conducted with informed consent, that confidentiality is maintained and all information is recorded in a secure manner.
Develop a literature review on protection measures and challenges regarding healthcare in conflict zones.
Prepare a comprehensive report that integrates key findings from the literature, the interviews, and additional materials provided by Action For Sama.
Hold weekly meetings with the Action For Sama’s project lead to provide updates on progress and discuss challenges.
Work closely with the Action For Sama team to craft compelling narratives based on interview findings, ensuring the voices of healthcare professionals are authentically represented.
Skills:
Proven experience in conducting qualitative research, including in-depth interviews, within complex and sensitive environments.
Strong ability to conduct interviews in a trauma-sensitive manner and to engage with interviewees with empathy and care.
Deep understanding of the Syrian context, and ability to effectively engage with interviewees ensuring sensitive interactions.
Understanding of the challenges faced by healthcare workers in conflict zones, particularly in Syria.
Proficiency in gathering, organising and analysing qualitative data to drive change.
Personal skills:
Strong communication skills, both spoken and written
Proven ability to organise, plan and prioritise work
Thrives working in a fast-paced environment
Language skills:
Fluent in spoken and written English and Arabic.
