SOCIAL MEDIA OFFICER

We are seeking a dynamic and creative Freelance Social Media Officer to join our passionate team at Action For Sama to work on a part time basis (12 hours per week). Our team is based in and around London and we have access to a co-working space in Camden, however, this role can be remote. 

We are looking for someone with over two years of experience in digital communications or social media, who is fluent in English and Arabic, and deeply understands the Syrian context and civil society. 

You'll manage our social media platforms, create and post engaging content, interact with our audience, and support broader campaign planning. We're looking for someone with a creative flair, enthusiasm for human rights, strong communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Does this sound like you? Position: Freelance Social Media Officer

  • Experience: Junior to Mid-Level

  • Hours: Part time - 1.5 days (12 hours) per week 

  • Salary: £10-15 per hour (dependent on experience and location)

  • Location: Remote (note: the team are based in and around London and have access to a co-working space in Camden)

  • Contract length: 6 months (to be reviewed at this stage)

  • Start date: Monday 7 October 2024

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Social Media Officer will be responsible for:

  • Posting weekly content on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter/X

    • Content creation for Action For Sama and reposting on the themes of: Syria context/breaking news, Hospital attacks / medical workers, Refugee themes, film screenings and activities and partner/peer posts

  • Checking AFS inboxes and comments to ensure engagement is maintained (and directing any larger queries to the wider team)

  • Support in social media planning for wider campaigns, eg. ‘Stop Bombing Hospitals’

  • Monthly reporting of social media (reach, engagement, audience etc.)

  • Translation of digital content from English to Arabic / Arabic to English

Skills: 

  • Excellent understanding of the Syrian context in general, and Syrian civil society in particular.

  • Over 2 years of experience working in digital comms or social media. 

  • A clear understanding of human rights and war-time violations.

  • Good knowledge of: Instagram, Twitter/X, Facebook 

  • Priority is given to those who have a proven track record of creating high-impact social media campaigns.

  • Knowledge of Canva (preferred but not required)

Personal skills:

  • Strong communication skills, both spoken and written

  • Passion for creating relevant and engaging content 

  • Creative flair 

  • Proven ability to organise, plan and prioritise work

  • Thrives working in a fast-paced environment  

Language skills:

  • Fluent in spoken and written English and Arabic.
